Our heritage
Six decades of handwoven silk from the weaving families of Arani.
1965
A humble loom shed in Arani — where a family began their lifelong commitment to pure silk craftsmanship, passing knowledge from father to son, mother to daughter, neighbour to neighbour.
1980s–2000s
Master weaver families deepened temple borders, bridal motifs, and zari artistry — skill travelling mouth to ear, hand to hand. Sarees still moved through traders, one step removed from the loom.
2010s–2020s
The craft thrived, yet customers rarely met the artisans whose hands shaped each drape. Excellence deserved a direct path — from loom to the woman who would cherish it.
2026
A name and a digital home for the weaving community — handwoven silk shared directly from source, artisans honoured, and every saree still passing through the same skilled hands.

Dear Silk Lovers,
For over sixty years, the rhythmic sound of the handloom has been the heartbeat of our family in Arani — a generational love affair with pure silk, never merely a business.
Today, more than 200 weaving families work with us on the handloom — neighbours who know one another by name, who share thread, technique, and the quiet pride of a craft learned at a parent’s knee. Their looms hum from early morning: in courtyard sheds, in narrow lanes, and in homes where the shuttle still moves by hand, not machine.
I grew up among these master weavers. I watched my own family — and families like ours — pour soul, patience, and artistry into every thread. A temple border can take weeks; a bridal motif, the memory of a wedding season. Every saree carries a story before it ever reaches your doorstep.
For too long, those stories stayed in the weaving streets while middlemen spoke for the craft. The artisan’s name was rarely the one you remembered. That never felt right to us.
Varahi Varnam Silks was born to change that — to bring the makers and the lovers of silk face-to-face. When you choose one of our sarees, you are not buying fabric alone; you are honouring two hundred families who still believe in the loom, supporting the hands that wove it, and helping a living tradition continue for the next generation.
That is the promise we make from our side of the warp and weft — and the love we hope you feel when you drape it.
From our loom, with love.
